Westhay Opportunity Centre
Westhay Opportunity Centre

We pride ourselves on our reputation and quality of care.

"Our son has just begun his third year at Westhay and what a difference this day centre for special young adults has made to him.

He has been able to participate in a range of activities (something that is not aspired to by all day centre placements) which has contributed to his fitness, both physical and mental and ultimately imrpoved his self confidence and esteem.

The staff at Westhay have gone to great lengths to identify his strengths and shape his week according to his abilities; providing variety, and sense of achievement and stimulation. The highlight of his week is working with his two good mates, under the very caring supervision of Norman, (to observe, it is a bit like "Auf Wiedersehen Pet" on the Somerset Levels!)

A further aspect and important dimension to the Westhay Offering, is the acquisition of the flat in Street. This provides young adults with the opportunity to practice the daily skills required for independent living in the community. Whilst our son is not seeking to achieve independent living away from his family home, it has nevertheless equipped him with the key skills necessary to fulfill this amibition, which for some of the service users is a key goal.

We cannot recommend highly enough this caring and inspirational day placement centre led  by Trevor and Alison."

"Our daughter started attending Westhay Opportunity Centre five years ago after leaving residential college. Initially two days a week and then increasing to three. During that time we have watched Westhay grow and mature without any disruption to the service users. The team work hard to find new and interesting things for the young people to experience.

Trevor and Alison and their dedicated staff always go tha extra mile, especially when it comes to the care for service users and their families. We receive newsletters keeping us up to date with infromation about staff and whats going on. They are thoughtful to all, get to know each client well and strive to bring out the best in each of them.

We have also made use of their personal Assistance service which has been excellent. In short Westhay has been a complete success story, from both our daughters point of view and ours. Last but not least, their Christmas Fayre is second to none."

"I spent 10 weeks working at Westhay Opportunity Centre during the summer to gain some work experience before returning to college. From the moment I arrived I found the whole organisation very welcoming, both staff and service users. The friendly atmosphere and easy going yet driven ethos made it easy to settle in and I very quickly felt at home. I supported in areas ranging from swimming, gardening, arts and crafts and cooking, however this was only a small taste of a handful of diverse activities going on around the place! But I was soon told all about the goings on and what everyone had been up to by enthusiastic students during lunch time! It soon became clear to me that these activities were appropriately challenging yet really fun for everyone involved. It was an experience that succeeded all expectations and I loved every second."
